conclusion
It is important to know these steps when surviving
a new job. Even though there are many survival rules, these are just a few. If
you are new to a job and want to survive, you will have to put in the extra
work, but most of all, remember to never show up late on the first day because the
first impression means everything.
Godwin,
ReplyDeleteFrom reading your draft, what in this conclusion is new information, or new thought? The biggest issue you have, as we discussed in class, with being able to provide clearer and more in depth detail beyond generalizations is that you chose too big or a subject. You didn't narrow down "job culture" to any particular type of job out there. Not every job is a managerial job -- or office work. Not every job has the same structure of who is in charge of whom. Your over generalization of the assignment is what makes this essay draft very likely to need a lot of revision. You have other essays that provide more specific insight into the topics, so I know you can narrow down and provide details and keen insight on a topic.
Perhaps in your intro and in a revised conclusion for Essay 3 you could outline types of jobs the advice might be best for? Then you could also give some thought to some ways your advice might not work as well.
Or, you could spend some time in the conclusion acknowledging how broad the advice is, but then give your thoughts about different types of job where the job seeker would need to pay attention to the norms and beliefs of that place. One important way to contextualize your steps might be to go back and use more adjectival phrases with your steps. For instance, in your first conclusion sentence, why not add an adjective like "general" or "generic" to "steps" to show your audience you know that there are so many jobs out there. Readers will be more forgiving to the writer when the writer shows they know their idea is broader.
With these "generic steps to surviving a new job" are implemented, what are some categories of things for a new worker to look out for? Who has the power? Who is the gossiper? Who is the slacker?
